Biography of Speakers
Alex Cai was one of the first China-trained lawyers to study in the U.S. He earned his LL.M. from University of Georgia School of Law and his J.D. from UC Berkeley School of Law (’91L). Cai became a licensed lawyer in Washington and worked at Davis Wright Tremaine’s Bellevue Office for two years. In 1994, he returned to China to set up a Chinese law firm. As a lawyer licensed in both China and Washington, he has advised U.S. and European multinational corporations on Chinese legal matters, and advised Chinese companies and individuals on U.S. legal matters.
In 2014, Alex Cai formed Cai & Associates, P.C. with Charlie Cai, a lawyer licensed in Washington and New York to better serve the growing business needs of Chinese investors and companies in the U.S. Cai’s practice focuses on assisting Chinese companies and individuals with investment and employment-related immigration, M&A, incorporation, real estate, and other transactional work.
Recognized as the marketing strategist behind many of the Pacific Northwest’s most respected real estate projects over the past 20 years, Dean Jones applies his executive skills to the region’s global real estate brokerage Realogics Sotheby’s International Realty as Owner & CEO. Before acquiring the Sotheby’s International Realty franchise in 2010, principal Dean Jones has been on a crusade to make his market relevant for international investment and immigration similar to his experience in Vancouver, BC where the market is considered a global address and Asian population is approximately 50% of the demographic profile. In 2012 he began a pursuit that two years later resulted in sponsoring the first mainland Chinese affiliate at Beijing Sotheby’s International Realty and opening an Asian Desk locally with brokers fluent in language, customs and logistics. Dean has become an internationally-travelled promoter of his region and through high-profile editorial, events and promotions helped raised visibility for the his region. His brokers have been responsible for many of the highest value listings and sales in the region with Asian homebuyers representing the fastest rising consumer profile.
Jim Mei focuses primarily on business-related immigration, international business transactions, and Chinese joint venture law. Jim represents small and medium-size multinational companies at home and abroad. He assists them in obtaining various temporary working visas, including L-1, E-1/E-2, H-1B, O-1, TN and employment-based immigrant petitions and applications.
Keith Baldwin is a business transactions and securities lawyer with a 38-year history of serving clients’ legal needs. Keith focuses his practice on business relationships, including mergers and acquisitions, agreements among owner-entrepreneurs, and best practices for corporate governance. Keith’s practice emphasizes family-owned and other closely held private businesses, businesses funded by non-U.S. investors and U.S. subsidiaries of foreign corporations. He assists growth-oriented companies in raising capital in compliance with federal and state securities laws, and serves as outside counsel to both emerging and mature businesses. He is a frequent public speaker on corporate matters, and co-authored the “Private Equity Funds” chapter of the Washington Partnership and Limited Liability Company Deskbook.
Warren Koons is a commercial real estate lawyer whose practice emphasis are purchase and sale and exchange transactions, including property for residential, commercial or mixed use development, timberland, industrial, retail, office, and agricultural properties. He also collaborates with our China Practice group lawyers to assist Chinese investors wishing to acquire US commercial real property or US real estate development companies.
